The Year In Review

This academic year has once again been one of many accomplishments - academically, socially, and athletically. With twelve new spring pledges in addition to the seven in the fall, we hope this fine tradition continues for years to come.

Athletically, Pika has once again done well with IM and varsity sports. Our C-Team took the minors football championship with an exciting win over DTD. A-Team made it to the finals, beating Beta in the semi-finals, only to lose to ATO in the finals. Pika fielded a handful of varsity athletes. Robert Bruce, track, is a 2-time UAA champion in Javelin. Geoff Waller won a gold medal and four bronzes at the UAA championships in swimming. Other athletes include Dan Schmitt, tennis; Andy Rentschler, Basketball; Brent Jones, Golf; Adam Snyder, Football; Ben Bell, Track; Satoru Yamaguchi, Baseball; Chris Chicoskie, Hockey.

Academically, Pika ranked fifth out of fifteen on the fraternity QPA list.

Sweepstakes

Spring Carnival 1993 was truly a crazy time for Sweepstakes. With monstrously strong push teams, we hoped to take it all. Due to circumstances too long to list, we had only three men's teams. While the Carnegie Mellon women's soccer team fielded two outstanding teams.

After Friday's races, it appeared that all five of our teams had made it to Saturday! However, our smokin' fast men's B-Team was disqualified and due to more strange circumstances, only one of our women's teams was allowed to run.

After Saturday's rolls, our men's A-Team pushers were fastest on four of the five hills, however, we achieved a 2nd Place finish. Our men's C-Team took 7th Place with an exciting diving catch by Dan Schmitt and the women's A-Team blazed to a 1st Place trophy.

No alumni heats were scheduled for Sweepstakes this year.
